- Avocado Trees -
these 20 yrs-old avocado trees are actually in v bad conditions (dying soon) - as admitted by the farmer. it's caused by the extreme water drought conditions that hit Brisbane for the past 10 years + a severe frost that happened 5 years ago..
gotta say, i really do take my hat-off the Aussie farmers.. all these crop plantations are really their only income thus they really do take v v good care of them - like a precious baby!
the problem is once they have a bad crop year, (meaning no fruits or bad fruits produced) these can cause a bad debt situation on the farmers.. + the issue of totally no water at all.. *phew..* Aussie farmers all got their water for plantation from Bore (ground water or wells) however, even that supply has dried up 1-2yrs ago.. & they cant use their normal tap-water to water them as compared to SG wor.. =S
*thus* this farmer has to buy another piece of land 2km neighbouring to him to use the Bore water that's still available in the land & connecting it w a 2km-long pipeline to transport the water over to his plantation.. =S *hardworking man* & he has to abandon his avocado production as it's not sustainable in the long-term orchard production due to the high-water consumption it has..

- persimmon aka sai! -
well, jus changing his crops does minimize the water issues yet more problems came up on the new crops as well..
hares (aka wild rabbits) loves to chew persimmon's bark
- dried blood & bones -
the farmer went online to find a solution to the hares problem & he found this solution in using dried blood & bones ( of cattles i presume) to prevent the hares from coming near the bark of the persimmons - not sure whether it really works though =P
*weird ang-mohs!* haa =P
